Purchased this car for my daughter. Have had to do 3 major things that ran over $1,000 to it and now it wont pass emissions. Plastic inside is cheap and cracks easily, headlights are always foggy not matter what we do. Even purchased extra 2 year warrenty, not worth the paper written on. See tons of them on the road always in red. Must of been a popular color that year. I think we got the lemon, should have painted it yellow. Will stick with Chevy or Buicks from now on. Also will have the next one researched. Owning this car is like having a piggy bank you just keep putting money in but never get anything back. It is hopless. 2 more years to pay on, thats the sad part.

I got my Grand AM as a graduations gift for graduating high school. Ive had to replace the brakes 3 times in 6 months, ive had to replace the alternator. Also i wrecked this car doing 40 mph into the back of a minivan and my airbags did not deploy, even though it was totalled the insurance company still fixed it, luckly i had on my seatbelt that did enough damage. My transmission is slipping, and all my parking lights keep going out, also so are my brake lights.. I think that these are awesome looking cars but the mechanical errors need to be fixed!!!

I leased a 99 Grand Am SE for 3 yrs. and was very happy with the car. The V6 engine was powerful, and this car really came packed with a lot of features for the price (power windows/seats, steering-wheel radio controls, cd player, cruise-control, etc.). My only complaint is that the car handled poorly at high speeds (it seemed to have a mind of its own). In the 3 years that I owned it, I had hardly any service problems (a couple minor things that were resolved with 1 trip to the dealer).

  • Built Cheap Wont Last - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

Bought this car in April of 2004. Really loved it until it began to fall apart. Wheel speed sensor went out a week after I bought it--it is a $500 part and not to mention the cost of taking it to a dealership to get it fixed. About two months after that, the crankshaft pulley broke and my auxillary belt slipped....another big expense. The power seat motor, along with the red lighting on the clock also went out. The brakes were also a huge problem with this car. In 5 months, I had the pads replaced twice! I liked it at first because of its sporty looks, but thank goodness I traded it in on something more reliable!

  • Problems from day one...literally! - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

I loved the look of this car when I first bought it May 2004. Outside and inside had great looks, but found out how cheaply made it is over time. The dashboard is pealing up by the window, the bumpers are very flimsy...able to move when washing car! About a week after purchased i moved the seat higher and would not go back down. Car overheated 2 times within first 3 mths! Thank goodness for warranty! My blinker has been blinking for over 6 mths now non stop. The light isnt on, just the sound, the mileage display and clock/radio are messed up. The display shows distorted numbers. The gas mileage is horrible...about 220 miles per tank! My AC broke 3mths ago $1,000 to repair, not even worth it

I had bought this car just shortly after it was released (as a new redesigned model) after reading all these reviews that Pontiac pulled it together and produced a quality vehicle. Boy was I wrong!! Had to replace the brakes twice in the first two years (28k miles after 2years). Power drivers seat broke after 5 months. Outside of that the car was great.....until the 3 year 36k warranty expired. Transmission started slipping, alternator had to be replaced, power steering started leaking. I spent over 3 grand in repairs within 3 months of the warranty expiring.

  • Great Car Reliable and fun - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

I purchased this car with 20,000 miles on it. I love it! It now has 112,000 miles on it. The idea of trading it in for a newer model saddens me. This car is perfect for a 16 year old or anyone looking for a reliable car with decent gas mileage.

  • I LOVE THIS CAR!!!! - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

Great car! I wish it had more aftermarket support and some extra hp from the factory though. Turns heads constantly. At 45,000+ miles, its only had basic maintenance and the rotors replaced once. Fuel economy could be better but you cant help but speed in this car, so it will suffer. I average anywhere from 20-25mpg. I was leery to buy this car in 99 because it was the first year for the redesign, but it has never disappointed me! Kudos to GM for this one.

I traded my amazing volkswagen that ended up needing a radiator for this pontiac or pile of junk. I have had so many problems with it sparkplugs, headlights, trunk latch, windows, and now I need a flex pipe and I cannot figure out which one it needs the car is so loud because the flex pipe fell off somehow!!!
